About Me

Most of us can’t sum up what we’re struggling with in a single headline. Your experiences interact with each other and shape who you are, and my work focuses on how these connections show up, rather than treating each issue in isolation.

I draw on specialist training across eating disorders, trauma, autism and ADHD, and on approaches including CBT, ERP and DBT, adapting them to fit you rather than trying to fit you to a type of therapy. Where it’s helpful, I also bring in grounding and regulation techniques using the environment around us, and creative approaches.

As well as working outdoors, I have a therapy room in Sheffield.

My relationship with nature

I grew up in a city that had lots of green spaces, and my early relationship with nature was in the city’s parks and cemeteries, where nature seemed quite happy to live alongside people.

I first visited the peak district when trying climbing outdoors on a university trip. It was raining heavily, and I was wearing jeans and a woolly jumper.

Shortly after that, I invested in a raincoat, and over the next few years I explored nature through climbing. I learned that being in nature could be an escape, but also a way to connect with what was happening in my life and to process things. I’ve taken comfort in the scale of it; sometimes I feel empowered in nature, and sometimes I feel very small.

For a long time, I dreaded the colder darker months of the year when I couldn’t climb outside or spend long evenings outdoors. I often felt very disconnected from the outdoors in the winter. Spending time with the geese in the park and gardening – alone and more recently with others – gave me a chance to reconnect with the seasons I had forgotten.

Being outdoors, undoubtedly, is good for me – even when it rains.
